Though the use of terms like “recycled” and “sustainable” may be open to interpretation, we seek artists who follow the spirit of “upcycling” – to take that which might otherwise have been cast off and make something beautiful out of it!
18 Hands Gallery is pleased to invite entries for “Green Jewelry: Recycled/Upcycled”, a juried exhibition showing through the month of July, 2012 with the goal of demonstrating the enormous range of innovative applications of recycled and “green” materials in contemporary jewelry.
Open to jewelry artists residing in the United States. All submitted work must consist of at least 75% recycled materials. Metal, glass, paper, plastics, rubber, stone, fiber and plant materials, wood and ceramic are all acceptable materials. All work must be original and produced within the last 18 months. All jewelry should be wearable and the materials used should be durable enough to survive multiple wearings.
The entry fee is $25.00, payable to 18 Hands Gallery. A maximum of 5 works per artist may be entered. All work must be for sale; though price point is not a factor in the judging process, our most successful price points are up to $475.
Juror
We are pleased to announce that Jan Harrell, nationally known jewelry artist, enamelist and instructor will be our Juror. For the last nineteen years, Jan has been the enameling instructor at the Glassell School of Art, the teaching school for the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas. She received her BFA in Jewelry and Enamel from Texas Tech University and her MFA in Sculpture from the University of Houston in 2007. Jan exhibits jewelry scale and small object work nationally and internationally and has been the recipient of numerous awards.
Prizes
