Ryan McKerley

My main influences are contemporary studio pottery and mass-produced functional objects.  Most of my forms are taken from my peers and the designers of the manufacturing world.  On the other hand, I feel that my surfaces are my own.

This current body of work has come about by following processes - the processes of forming, decorating, glazing and firing.  The forms and surfaces are suggested by a technique, not by an initial idea of an object needing an appropriate method of creation.  The possibilities and limitations of process develop these pots. Working this way has always come naturally to me as I try to follow the path of least resistance.
