Linda Nowell
Linda creates decorative, artistic & functional pottery. Her pottery includes mid-fire glazed & horsehair Raku. It contains mixed media pieces incorporating wood, leather lacing & basket weaving. Most of her creations are intricately carved & sculpted, incorporating extensive designs carved into & sometimes through the surfaces of her work. A crackle finish resembling a dried up lakebed adorns still other works. Many creations feature the technique know as chattering while others are adorned with a design resembling dragon scales. Another technique involves scratching designs into the surface of the clay with small wire instruments. The pottery is created using several different types of clay. This allows her work to vary from very smooth, polished surfaces to rougher more granulated surfaces. Inspiration is drawn from wood turners, basket weavers, sculptors & nature.
Whether it is a teapot, vase, bowl or platter, there is something about Linda’s work that is unique. While some pieces are wheel thrown, others are created using hand build methods. Each piece is a work of art & often evokes strong feelings.
Linda has received numerous awards including the “Peoples’ Choice Award” at the 2006 National Ceramic Show in San Angelo, TX.
